Itinerary in Brief
Tailor made itineraries can be discussed, made and adjusted to suit weather conditions and your preferences before and during your stay.
For those who are in shape, the first proposal would be to reach de Lodge following a trail from the southern point of the Lago del Desierto, with one of our guides (3 hr trek), while your luggage would be taken by boat. Several options of treks may be considered: basically those than can take a couple of hours to treks that can be as long as one desires, that’s up to you.
Every evening before dinner we get together to plan the following day activities, which can combine either treks or boat trips. The idea is to explore trails of incredible beauty, with the advantage of being far from all but close to the Lodge.
The Glaciar Huemul, the northern point of the lake where the endarmería Base is located, the border with Chile, and a little further the Lago San Martín, spending a night in tent, and why not, this could be the start of your experience in Chile from Villa O’Higgins onwards.
All these small valleys, creeks, glaciers and waterfalls are added to the special and incredible activities offered from El Chaltén. Now that the Aguas Arriba Lodge has opened, your adventure options have expanded and your exploration quest has a limit that only your imagination can define.
A dream place for the fly fisherman who wants to be left on an isolated shore ready for the challenging trout.
Lago Del Desierto
The lake, it is 12 km long, surrounded by natural forest all the way to the edge of the water. It offers a variety of beaches and wide bays for long and short casting. It is surprising the amount of springs that flow into the lake. Along the whole way you will have the view of the Mt. Fitz Roy and Vespiganani Glacier. The options of different bays permits to choose the right spot depending on the wind conditions. It is recommended to use fishing pole of 4/5, floating lines, long tappered leader of 9' for better results.
We use dry flies and nymphs, the ones that will work the best are the “prince”, “zug bug”, the “green machine” and to have fun the “chernobill”. You can catch the rainbow trout or the brown trout of 1 to 2 kg average. Big cliffs can be found in the lake shore, offering deepwater, a perfect spot to use sinking line that might give you a nice surprise. After a great fishing day you will have a cozy and comfortable place with good wine, delicious meals and great company waiting for you.
Las Vueltas River
The road goes 35 km along the river. You can find rainbow trouts. From the beginning of the river in the Lago del Desierto to the confluence with the Toro river must catch and release and only one hook without barb must be used. From Toro river till the river mouth in the Lago Viedma please check on the current regulation in the Lodge.
It's a 5 km from the North point of the lake, there are rainbow trouts, and is accessible by foot.
The River mouth in the North point of the Lake is accessible by boat, 7 km.

Hotel Information: Aguas Arriba Lodge
With nature in mind, the Lodge has an
eco-friendly architecture where many precautions to protect and preserve
the natural environment have been taken.
The Lodge is a mountain cabin with a rustic style, made entirely of
wood, using mostly recycled logs from a burn forest from northern
Patagonia. This rustic style, is expressed in the walls and beams where you can see
the grain and the imperfections of the wood, and how it respectfully
blends with the essence of the environment.
Within this style, every room was designed to offer a warm, comfortable, cozy and quiet place to enjoy. Wide open views let the scenery into the house. Enjoy the sound of water cuddling the shore, the wind passing through the tree leafs leaves its tracks on the lake surface.
