On arrival to Johannesburg's Oliver Tambo International Airport, you will be met by our representative and be transferred to Madikwe Safari Lodge (approximately 4.5 hours). Alternatively, air transfers are also available with charter flights flying from Johannesburg to Madikwe Reserve, where you will then be picked up by our representative and be transferred to the lodge.
Itineraries depend on weather and natural conditions. On the first day, after settling into your accommodations, you will have an introductory briefing as we welcome you to the incredible Madikwe Safari Lodge.
Madikwe Safari Lodges offer a range of activities cater to all types of visitors. The detailed experiences available are designed to ensure your visits move beyond the ordinary.
Game drives start in the early morning at sunrise, and late afternoon just before sunset in search of the many animal species which call this place home. Travelling in an open safari, game drives is limited to eight people at a time share in a private and intensely personal safari experience in the company of the Madikwe guide.
Guided walks are a different way to appreciate the bush, and to enjoy a unique perspective of the reserve. Walks generally take place after breakfast and last approximately 1 ½ to 2 hours, depending on the fitness level of guests. In summer, due to the heat, walks may be incorporated into the morning game drive before heading back to the lodge for breakfast.
Unique to Madikwe Safari Lodge, kids’ menu of activities have been designed to keep younger ones entertained, and parents relaxed. Built specifically for Madikwe Safari lodge, the Eco house is an educational (and entertainment) centre built specifically for kids – and anyone with a fascination for the wild world and its inhabitants. Kids can partake in painting, drawing, making models and arts and experience some of the live specimens from the reserve. Many other activities available for children including family safari drives, bush orientation, bug CSI, dung tracking, track pack with plaster of Paris, baking in the kitchen, making pizzas in the boma, star gazing, game night and much more.
Please note: Game drives are not available for children under the age of two years, and children between the ages of two and five are welcome on the late morning family safari drive. The family safari drive for children aged two to five departs at 11:00 in winter and 10:00 in summer, and lasts for approximately two hours.

Madikwe Safari Lodge offers three luxury lodges, each with its own appeal. The lodges cater to all types of visitors and depend on whether you are travelling with the family, with a group of friends or on your own, and on your personality. The three luxury lodges are Madikwe Lelapa Lodge, Madikwe Kopano Lodge and Madikwe Dithaba Lodge.
Madikwe Lelapa Lodge
Lelapa literally means ‘family’ and this is the aim of the lodge to give no restriction in terms of age or generation. It has been designed to provide kids with a menu of activities to keep them entertained, and parents relaxed.
Each of the 12 Suites is spacious and comfortable. It includes indoor and outdoor showers, private plunge pool and wood-burning fireplace are just some of the added creature comforts to enhance Mother Nature’s subtle signature. Each suite has a double bed (convertible to twins), air-conditioning, ceiling fan, bathroom en-suite, safe, mini bar, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and a range of deluxe amenities.
Madikwe Kopano Lodge
Kopano refers to ‘small gathering’. The lodge comprises of 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool) which share a magnificent common area. Each suite has a double bed (convertible to twins), air-conditioning, fireplace, ceiling fan, bathroom en-suite, outdoor shower, safe, mini bar, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and a range of deluxe amenities.
Madikwe Dithaba Lodge
With only 4 Suites (each with private plunge pool), this lodge is well suited to a group of friends or family members making it their own while on safari. Each suite has a double bed (convertible to twins), private plunge pool, air-conditioning, fireplace, ceiling fan, bathroom en-suite, outdoor shower, safe, mini bar, direct-dial telephone, hairdryer and a range of deluxe amenities.
