New Zealanders now require a visa for South African travel.

You may be unaware of the change, but from 16 January 2017, New Zealanders now need a three-month holiday visas to visit South Africa. This is in response to New Zealand dropping visa-free travel for South Africans.

You will need the following if you wish to visit South Africa:

  • A valid and acceptable passport or travel document for your intended stay
  • At least one blank page in your passport for endorsements
  • A valid visa
  • Sufficient funds to pay for your day-to-day expenses during your stay
  • A return or onward ticket
  • Yellow fever certificates if your journey starts or entails passing through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South America.

You can find out more information here on the South African Department of Home Affairs website.

Australian citizens do not need a visa to travel to South Africa for an intended stay of 90 days or less and when in transit.
