10 Days aboard National Geographic Endurance. From AUD $21,522pp.
Small Ship Expeditions
Details

Overview

Sail to the high Arctic archipelago of Svalbard, one of the best places on the planet to see polar bears in their native habitat. Over the past 50+ years, our ace spotters have given our guests multiple opportunities to experience sightings. In addition to the bears, we’ll be on the lookout for walrus, reindeer, elusive arctic foxes, fur seals and numerous species of birds. The archipelago offers unique hikes, with artful, sculptural arrangements of whale bones on pebbled beaches and the ghostly remains of trapper’s huts.

Itinerary Highlights

  • Marvel at Arctic ice floes from the ship’s observation deck as you sail, keeping an eye out for local wildlife—including walruses, seals and the majestic polar bear.
  • Discover the legendary midnight sun in the Arctic circle where, due to the tilt of the Earth’s axis, the summer sun never sets.
  • View unusual Arctic flora and tidewater glaciers on walks with naturalists as you search for endemic species, such as arctic foxes and reindeer.
  • Learn tips and techniques from a National Geographic Photographer, who will show you how to best capture images of the stunning scenery around you.

Day 3 to 8: Exploring Svalbard

The crew operate in true expedition style, letting nature dictate the ship's day-to-day movements within an immense Arctic wonderland. The fully stabilized, ice-class expedition ship probes deep into the ice where the polar bears forage, walrus sun themselves and the Svalbard reindeer roam. Join spotters on the Bridge as you scan the floes and islands for these iconic creatures, along with bearded and ringed seals; Arctic fox; and whales that call these waters home, like beluga, fin and minke. There’s no greater thrill than a sighting that brings everyone rushing to the bow or Bridge for a close-up view.

Sail deep into protected bays and fjords, where even a novice kayaker can comfortably paddle surrounded by sparkling bergs and dramatic mountains. Video from the Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) allows you to peer into the mysterious world that exists 1,000 feet below the surface during Recaps with your multi-talented field staff.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

Price Assurance

At Eclipse Travel, our expert destination knowledge and decades of travel planning experience come at no extra cost to you. While many think booking through a tour operator is more expensive than planning a trip independently, that’s not the case. We’re paid by our travel partners—such as hotels, activity operators, and cruise providers—via commissions, not by our clients.

Our team negotiates the best rates for you and ensures you receive unbiased advice, with no preference for any particular supplier. In fact, where we secure higher commissions, we often pass the savings on to you, giving us a competitive price edge.

Additionally, we lock in exchange rates at the time of your deposit, ensuring no surprise costs when it’s time for final payment. You can rest easy knowing we’ll handle the details with our suppliers. The only exceptions are national park fee increases or fuel surcharges imposed after your booking, though these are rare.

Take advantage of our team’s expertise and let us help you plan the perfect holiday—hassle-free!
