Day 1: Arrive in Nuku’alofa
Welcome to Tonga!
Nuku’alofa, Tonga’s capital, can be a surprisingly bustling place with a third of Tonga’s population living here. Despite it’s small size and population there is plenty to do here, whether you’re wanting to relax on the beach or you’re more of an active relaxer.
On arrival transfer to your resort, enjoy remainder of day at leisure on the beach or by the pool with a cocktail.
Day 2: Nuku’alofa & Western Tongatapu
Today explore the kingdom’s capital Nuku’alofa and the unique sights of Western Tongatapu.
After pick up from your hotel, we will visit the Royal Palace, a wooden Palace, it is built in 1867 and is the iconic feature of Nuku’alofa. Next stop is the Royal Tomb, only a short distance from the Royal Palace. Visit the Talamahu Market and Langafonua Handicrafts Centre and be amazed with the wide range of traditional Tongan handicrafts such as tapa cloth and tapa crafts, woven crafts from Pandanus leaves, Tongan jewellery and wood carvings.
Along the way to the spectacular blowholes, you have the opportunity to take a photo of the bizarre three headed coconut tree. Driving up into the west side, you will see the Tsunami Rock which also known as “Maka Sio’ata”. It is a giant three-story boulder which was suspected to be the largest object moved uphill by a tsunami.
Last stop is the place where the first European Explorer first landed in the Kingdom of Tonga, the Abel Tasman Landing Place. Enjoy the idyllic lifestyle of the locals as you pass through the fruit plantation and villages.
Enjoy a delicious lunch before being dropped back at your hotel.
This evening treat yourself to a traditional Tongan feast and cultural show. Dishes typically include traditional favourites, such as suckling pig and 'ota 'ika, raw fish marinated in lemon and coconut cream. You might also be offered steamed fish, chicken, octopus, beef and a tasty range of fresh local vegetables.
Day 3: Pangaimotu Island
Today take a day cruise to Pangaimotu Island (aka “King’s” Island) to enjoy a day of sun, snorkelling and relaxing. Asides from the pristine azure waters, the islands main attraction is a ship wreck where you can dive or jump off the hull.
Pangaimotu is only a 10 minute boat ride from Tongatapu and a delicious lunch at Big Mama’s Yacht Club is included.
Day 4: Swimming with Humpback Whales
This morning get ready for a true experience of a lifetime, swimming with humpback whales.
Offered between the months of July to October spend your morning whale watching, swimming and snorkelling before an island lunch and coral reef snorkelling. In the afternoon enjoy more whale watching/swimming/snorkelling before heading back to Nuku’alofa wharf.
Day 5: At Leisure
Spend your last day on the island relaxing and enjoying this remote island paradise.
Head to Ha'atafu, one of the best beaches on the main island of Tongatapu, for a swim or snorkel in the crystal-clear lagoon. Book in for lunch at one of the beach side accommodation providers, walk along the long beachfront and linger on to watch the sun dip below the horizon. Ha'atafu Beach is at the northwest end of the island in the area of Kanokupolu, about 30 minutes by car from the capital Nuku'alofa.
Day 6: Departure
This morning you will check out of your hotel and depart Tonga.
