Redoubt Bay Lodge, located at the entrance to Lake Clark Pass offers the only accommodations within a 171,000 acre critical habitat area, and is the only 5-acre privately owned property in the region! This small, rustic lodge sits on a small knoll overlooking Big River Lakes, a chain of lakes whose waters lead to the Big River and on to Cook Inlet. At Redoubt Bay Lodge, the emphasis is on viewing wildlife and exploring the lakes surrounding the lodge within the natural setting of the spectacular Chigmit Mountains. The atmosphere at Redoubt Bay Lodge is pleasantly casual and “outdoorsy”

Example Itinerary in Brief - 3 Days
Day 1: Arrive in Anchorage - Fly to Redoubt Bay Lodge
Day 2: Full Day Bear Viewing Tour
Day 3: Departure
*4 & 5 day tours also available.
Arriving
After a beautiful 50-minute flight from Anchorage via floatplane, you will land on Big River Lakes. Redoubt Bay Lodge staff will greet you and show you to your cabin. Be as physically rigorous as you like, or kick back and enjoy the fresh air. The included activities offered by the lodge focus on bear viewing, sport fishing, or natural history touring during your stay.
Bear Viewing Experience
Because of the salmon population at Big River Lakes, there are many
bears that feed in the local area. We are working hard to protect our
resident bears and co-exist with them. A trained naturalist guide will
take you for an up close and safe view of our nearest neighbors. The two kinds of bears we see in South-central Alaska are Brown Bears and
Black Bears. Your chances are good to see either type of bear but
Redoubt Bay Lodge is most noted for our resident Brown Bear population.
Big River Lakes Fishing
Redoubt Bay Lodge located at Big River Lakes is a fisherman’s dream with
some of the best Sockeye and Coho Salmon fishing on the Westside of the
Cook Inlet.
Kayaking the Big River Lakes
Canoes and kayaks available at the lodge for checking out the meandering
coves of Big River Lakes. Spend a few minutes or all day exploring the
famous Big River Lakes area.
Hiking
Stretch your legs and take in the incredible scenery with a hike on the Weasel Lake Trail from Redoubt Bay Lodge. The lodge will provide packs, water bottles and first aid supplies. It is recommended to bring sturdy, comfortable hiking shores, warm clothes and long-sleeve innerwear.
Departs - Daily (June - September)
About the Lodge
The small main lodge is a hand-hewn historic log cabin that houses
our dining facilities and the kitchen where all lodge meals are
prepared. There is a small reference library as well as games,
stationery, and postcards for writing home. Redoubt Bay Lodge offers 3 Cabins:
Lakeside Cabin
This cabin demonstrates typical "Alaska bush" construction of a log cabin. There is a simple private bath and two bedrooms, sleeping five and two people respectively. The cabin is heated by a woodstove located in the small front room for relaxing. The lodge provides linen, daily housekeeping service, and other amenities.
Trailside Cabin
This open-style cabin offers 1 queen bed, 1 twin bed in one room, a private bath, and a pleasant view of the lake from its deck. It is close to the main lodge. The cabin has a cozy couch by the woodstove. The lodge provides linen, daily housekeeping service, and other amenities.
Hillside Cabin
A short but slightly steep walk beyond the Main Lodge is where the Hillside Cabin is located. This cabin offers 1 queen bed, 1 twin bed in an open-style one room setting, and a private bath. The cabin is heated by a woodstove. The lodge provides linen, daily housekeeping service, and other amenities.
